Building Management Unit
The Building Management Unit consolidates all functions supporting Custodian Engineers, operated by a centralized team that oversees and coordinates every aspect of facility operations. This unit manages maintenance, repairs, building improvements, materials, financial planning, project management, and stakeholder engagement.
The Building Unit also supervises and supports the five borough field teams, including the Directors of Facilities and their deputies, ensuring principals receive top-tier facilities management support.

Health and Safety
The Office of Health & Safety (H&S) within the New York City Department of Education (NYC DOE) is a team of dedicated specialists focused on maintaining environmental health and safety standards across approximately 1,800 school buildings, spanning 130 million square feet throughout the five boroughs. H&S ensures regulatory compliance and risk mitigation in all NYC public schools through proactive monitoring, assessment, and remediation.

Talent
The Talent Unit in the Division of School Facilities brings all human resources functions under one roof, while also managing labor matters and serving as the key point of contact for New York City School Support Services (NYCSSS) employee concerns. With a focus on staff recruitment, development, and process improvement, the Talent Unit aims to modernize DSF’s human resource systems and elevate the employee experience.

Planning Unit
The Planning Unit, as part of the Division of School Facilities, is dedicated to shaping the future of school facility operations with a focus on technology and financial planning. This new unit will ensure that DSF has a clear roadmap for modernizing systems, aligning resources, and deploying technologies to meet schools' evolving needs.
During the 2024–2025 school year, the Planning Unit will collaborate with the Division of Instructional and Information Technology (DIIT) and the Division of Finance to streamline and enhance DSF's IT and financial portfolios. By focusing on these priorities, the Planning Unit will position DSF to better serve schools and their communities.
