Central (Shared) Attendance Teachers

School Year 2024-25 Centrally Funded Attendance Teacher Program

Duties and Responsibilities

The Office of Community Supports and Wellness (OCSW) provides guidance to districts to assist in managing attendance teacher professional responsibilities, professional development, and school expectations.

As mandated reporters, Attendance Teachers personally report to NYS Central Register with reasonable cause to suspect abuse, neglect or maltreatment. Attendance teachers do not make SCR calls on behalf of schools.

See the Important Message Regarding Attendance, Discharges and 407s to understand how an Attendance Teacher and school work together.

  • Each citywide functional chapter committee shall collaboratively review, consider and develop professional development programs relevant to the respective chapter’s duties and reasonable to prepare and complete within the chapter’s existing workday. FAQs

Itinerant Time Record

  • Each district provides a monthly Itinerant Time Record form, to be completed and submitted to the Superintendent or designee and to the payroll school, per Chancellors Regulation A-604.

Google Voice

  • Because attendance teachers are not sitting at a desk with a phone, many teachers use Google Voice.
  • With this service you get a dedicated phone number so parents can reach you, leave you voice mail and you can communicate via text.
  • With Google Voice you can manage voice mail and text on any desktop computer, or download the app on your own smart phone.

Home Visit Guidance

Centrally Funded Attendance Teachers are members of the school communities and districts within which they serve. Centrally Funded Attendance Teachers work collaboratively and communicate regularly with their assigned district teams to provide support and improve attendance throughout the district. Centrally Funded Attendance Teachers support school communities and districts by conducting home visits to families between 8:30 AM-3:50 PM.

Home Visit Guidance was updated in January 2024 (and modified in August 2024 to include updated home visit guidance for Humanitarian Emergency Response and Relief Centers or HERRCs) and is linked below.
