For the past three years, over 70,000 NYC educators have attended the Implicit Bias Awareness foundational workshop, either in-person or virtually. Now, the Office of Equity and Access (OEA) is offering the DOE online Implicit Bias Awareness (IBA) Workshop on WeLearnNYC.
The Office of Equity and Access would like to acknowledge the incredible work of our educators over the past two challenging years. We’ve engaged in the largest implicit bias awareness workshop initiative in the history of public schools in the country, and feedback on the impact and importance of the course has been overwhelmingly positive. Our intention is to provide a space to learn and reflect on our perceptions and biases in a way that offers tools to improve our practices for our students and communities.
If you received an email from OEA, you have been automatically enrolled in WeLearnNYC and have full access to the IBA course. If you have already taken the course and have proof of attendance, notify your supervisor. You can retake this online course if you would like to experience it again.
The course runs asynchronously for Modules 1-3, and then synchronously as a live Zoom session for Module 4.
Once you complete the first three modules on WeLearn, you will gain access to registration links for the Module 4 session, with a live facilitator from our Implicit Bias and Equity Literacy (IBAEL) team.
The estimated time to complete Modules 1-3 is between 2-3 hours, the Module 4 class is a 90-minute live workshop.
- Please note that sessions must have a minimum of 20 registrants to go live.
- If the session falls below that number, registrants will be notified within 24 hours that the session is canceled and encouraged to apply for another open session.
